Doctor Who: Gridlock

Please don't read this review unless you have already watched this episode, as it will spoil it for you.

This episode starts right after the last one, with Martha & the Doctor in the T.A.R.D.I.S. and the Doctor deciding that he could stretch the promised one ride in the one trip in the T.A.R.D.I.S. to include a trip to the future for Martha.  The Doctor takes her to New Earth, down bellow New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New York (this adding symmetry being the first place the Doctor took Rose). However while they find them selves stuck in the down bellow section of the city surrounded by people trying to sell them Emotions, Martha gets kidnapped and bundled into a hover car/van/R.V. The Doctor tries to catch up and ends up in another car and no way of finding Martha as all the cars (millions of them) are identical and stuck in gridlock.

Turns out Martha was kidnapped to become a unwilling car pool participant, as they needed a third person to go in the fast lane, and she then finds out that given the vast amount of traffic it will take them six years to get where they're going. The doctor finds himself on a car with a young mother and her husband and their litter of kittens, the hubby is a cat. He also finds out that he can't get out of the car till the next cut off which is six months away. The cat Brannigan and wife refuse to go down to the fast lane as they fear the stories that people who do are never heard from again. Martha soon finds out the stories are true as there are giant crabs living at the bottom most level and they rip any car they can find apart.

The Doctor tries to mount a rescue by jumping down from one car to the one bellow it level after level till he is at the final level before the fast lane. Only a female cat jumps into the car after him and  teleports him away to the upper city. She is one of the novices from the last time the Doctor was here, and she is trying to redeem herself by looking after the face  of Boe, who is dying. Turns out that about 23 years ago there was a epidemic caused by a virus in the emotion Bliss and killed off everyone in the uper city in under seven minutes. The Face of Boe sealed off the lower levels to save them, and has been using his life force to maintain the support systems down there. The Doctor Opens the over head entrances to the under city and orders everyone to leave the freeway, thus saving Martha and her kidnappers from death by crabs.

The Face of Boe then tells the Doctor that he is not alone and dies. Martha confronts the Doctor and he finally breaks down and tells her that the time lords are no more and he is the last of his kind.
